I've watched a new manager blossom over the last couple of months. She's been working on the measures and targets for a business and created a performance dashboard that is visually appealing, easy to understand and will be available to everyone in the business to understand how they are tracking, not just the Executive. She's tested it with technical and non-technical colleagues and received positive feedback on the clarity as well as ideas for improvement. It will be the single source of truth for reporting in the business - a vast improvement from the old dashboard where the Exec really couldn't decipher if targets were being met.
I've observed a number of time-poor leaders be so outcome focussed that they forget why we're all at work. We need to know that our work is valued and that we are valued. To foster a culture of passionate people with a shared purpose, leaders must stop for a moment to engage, whether by email or in person, and appreciate their team member's value.
The six simple words to say first? ... 'Thank you for your great _____.'
